Piano Classes - March 2018

  • Performers should submit only one entry per class, but may enter up to three classes.

  • Performers may not perform the same piece in two different classes.

  • Students should aim to enter class(es) at the level at which they are currently playing, not a level at which they have already achieved or surpassed.

  • Entries close at midday on 31 January 2018.

  • In some classes the number of entries may be limited by time available, in which case entries will be accepted on a first received basis.

  • Please ensure that you have read the full Festival Rules before making your entry.

Divisions

Battersea Piano Festival 2018 is split into five divisions comprising of two or three classes in each.

Special awards are also available in all junior divisions.

Non-Competitive Beginners

Aimed at students who have been learning for less than two years and who have not yet achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 1.

All performers will receive a certificate, rosette and feedback sheet from Get Set Piano Composer, Karen Marshall.

 

Get Set Piano Class 1

Entry fee: 12

Any two pieces from the following choices selected from

Get Set Piano Tutor Book 1 and

Get Set Piano Pieces Book 1:

  • Bingo

  • Bossa Bounce

  • Uncle Bryan's Drums

  • Funky Freddie

  • Boogie Man

  • Tingalayo!

Get Set Piano Class 2

Entry fee: 12

Any two pieces from the following choices selected from

Get Set Piano Tutor Book 2 and

Get Set Piano Pieces Book 2:

  • What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

  • Red Sox Rock

  • In the hall of the mountain king

  • Penny Blue

  • La bamba

  • Martha Murphy's jig

Early Learners

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 1 or Grade 2.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

Early Learners will also be considered for the Doreen Sykes Musicianship Award and are eligible for free entry for the Curious Pianist Award

 

Exam Class, Grade 1

Entry fee: 14

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 1 exam syllabus from ABRSM or Trinity

Exam Class, Grade 2

Entry fee: 15

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 2 exam syllabus from ABRSM or Trinity

Early Learners Open Class

Entry fee: 18

  • Own selection

  • One or two pieces up to equivalent Grade 2 standard (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 3 minutes will be applied

Improving Players

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 3 or Grade 4.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

Improving Players will also be considered for the Doreen Sykes Musicianship Award and are eligible for free entry for the Curious Pianist Award

 

Exam Class, Grades 3 & 4

Entry fee: 17

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 3 or Grade 4 exam syllabus from ABRSM or Trinity

Improving Players Open Recital Class

Entry fee: 20

  • Own selection

  • At least two pieces equivalent Grade 3-4 standard (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 5 minutes will be applied

Experienced Performers

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 5 or above.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

Experienced Performers will also be considered for the Doreen Sykes Musicianship Award and are eligible for free entry for the Curious Pianist Award

 

Exam Class, Grades 5 & 6

Entry fee: 19

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 5 or Grade 6 exam syllabus from ABRSM or Trinity

Experienced Performers Open Recital Class - up to Grade 6

Entry fee: 22

  • Own selection

  • At least two pieces equivalent Grade 5-6 standard (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 6 minutes will be applied

Experienced Performers Open Recital Class - Grade 7 and above

Entry fee: 24

  • Own selection

  • At least two pieces equivalent Grade 7 standard and above (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 8 minutes will be applied

Adults

Aimed at students aged 18 or over.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

 

Adult Learners Open Class 

Entry fee: 20

  • Own selection

  • At least two pieces equivalent up to Grade 5 standard (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 5 minutes will be applied

Experienced Adults Open Recital Class 

Entry fee: 25

  • Own selection

  • At least two pieces equivalent Grade 6 standard and above (not limited to exam repertoire)

  • A maximum time limit of 10 minutes will be applied
