Piano Classes - March 2019

  • Performers should submit only one entry per class, but may enter up to two classes in the same division.

  • Performers may not perform the same piece in two different classes.

  • Students should aim to enter class(es) at the level at which they are currently playing, not a level at which they have already achieved or surpassed.

  • Entries close at midday on 31 January 2019.

  • In some classes the number of entries may be limited by time available, in which case entries will be accepted on a first received basis.

  • Please ensure that you have read the full Festival Rules before making your entry.

Divisions

Battersea Piano Festival 2019 is split into four divisions comprising of two or three classes in each.

Non-Competitive Beginners - Sunday 10 March 2019

Aimed at students who have been learning for less than two years and who have not yet achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 1.

All performers will receive a certificate, rosette and feedback sheet from Get Set Piano Composer, Karen Marshall.

 

Piano Stars, Group 1

Entry fee: 12

Any two pieces selected from

Piano Star Five Fingers* or Piano Star 1*

Either two solos or one solo and one student/teacher duet

Piano Stars, Group 2

Entry fee: 12

Any two pieces selected from

Piano Star 2* or Piano Star 3*

Either two solos or one solo and one student/teacher duet

Early Learners - Sunday 10 March 2019

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 1 or Grade 2.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

 

Exam Class, Grade 1

Entry fee: 14

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 1 piano exam syllabus from ABRSM (2019/20)

Exam Class, Grade 2

Entry fee: 15

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 2 piano exam syllabus from ABRSM (2019/20)

Early Learners Open Class

Entry fee: 18

  • Own selection

  • One or two piano pieces up to equivalent Grade 2 standard not limited to exam repertoire 

  • Exam repertoire from all boards will be welcome

  • A maximum time limit of 3 minutes will be applied

Improving Players - Sunday 17 March 2019

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 3 or Grade 4.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

 

Exam Class, Grades 3 & 4

Entry fee: 17

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 3 or Grade 4 piano exam syllabus from ABRSM (2019/20)

Improving Players Open Recital Class

Entry fee: 20

  • Own selection

  • At least two piano pieces equivalent Grade 3-4 standard not limited to exam repertoire  

  • Exam repertoire from all boards will be welcome

  • A maximum time limit of 5 minutes will be applied

Experienced Performers - Sunday 17 March 2019

Aimed at students who have achieved a standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade 5 or above.

All performers will receive a certificate and graded feedback sheet from the adjudicator(s).

The winner each class will be awarded a trophy and medals for second and third places will be available depending on the number of entries.

 

Exam Class, Grades 5 & 6

Entry fee: 19

Any one solo piece from the current Grade 5 or Grade 6 piano exam syllabus from ABRSM (2019/20)

Experienced Performers Open Recital Class - up to Grade 6

Entry fee: 22

  • Own selection

  • At least two piano pieces equivalent Grade 5-6 standard not limited to exam repertoire  

  • Exam repertoire from all boards will be welcome

  • A maximum time limit of 6 minutes will be applied

Experienced Performers Open Recital Class - Grade 7 and above

Entry fee: 24

  • Own selection

  • At least two piano pieces equivalent Grade 7 standard and above not limited to exam repertoire 

  • Exam repertoire from all boards will be welcome

  • A maximum time limit of 8 minutes will be applied
